WILDFIRES

If a wildfire threatened your home, would you know what to do?

Consider these tips.
While wildfires are more frequent in the West, recent events have demonstrated that this is clearly a nationwide problem. Since more of us are living in rural areas closer to nature, these areas are more prone to wildfires, and that means our homes are at risk. No home is fireproof, but by taking the necessary precautions, your home can have a better chance of surviving such a catastrophe.

How can I protect my home from wildfire?

No matter where you live, a key to protecting your family and your home from wildfire disaster is preparation. Indeed, as illustrated in this brief video, courtesy of Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association, the building materials you select for your home or landscape can have a big impact on how well your home is protected. Design your home with fire prevention in mind

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Institute for Business & Home Safety have also provided valuable tips. We hope you’ll review these links to make sure you know how to best protect your home from a wildfire, what to do if one breaks out near you, and how to begin the recovery process.

Things to consider:
Be sure to have a Disaster Supplies Kit

What should I do if a wildfire is burning near my home?

What should I do during a wildfire?

What to do after a wildfire

How do I cope with the emotional effects?

Fortunately, as these resources indicate, there are several preventive measures we can take to protect ourselves and our property. Equally important is reviewing your insurance policies. Coverage that made sense when you established your original policies often needs to be adjusted over time, so if you haven't already, now is a good time to schedule an annual review with your insurance agent!

A professional inspection of your insurance policies can save you time and money! Your American National Professional Insurance Review is another opportunity for you to ask questions about your current policy, and perhaps learn about coverage, features, or discounts you may be eligible to receive.
